According to a report, federal prosecutors have informed the legal team for former President Trump that he is the “target of their probe” into how he handled secret materials after leaving office.
In a New York Times article, Special Counsel Jack Smith’s letter was the “clearest indication so far that the former president will likely face indictments in the investigation.” The report read:
“It is still not known when Mr. Trump’s team was informed about him being the subject of the investigation, but the notification seemed to indicate that Mr. Smith’s attorneys had almost finished their probe and were on the verge of presenting an indictment.”
“Informing a prospective offender that they are a target is a formal method of saying that they are the subject of a criminal investigation, and it often happens before charges are filed. The notice usually makes it possible for defense attorneys to ask for a meeting with the prosecutors to present their cases.”
A Trump indictment would enrage conservatives and maybe inspire them to support the former president as he runs for a second term to the White House in 2024.
It would coincide with President Biden’s own probe of the handling of secret materials when he was a senator and the vice president.
This week, Trump published on Truth Social:
“Wow, this is turning out to be the biggest and cruelest case of election interference in our nation’s history. Not only am I much ahead of DeSanttimonious in the polls, but I am also well ahead of Biden. Additionally, and probably most significantly, they are initiating all of the many “Fake Investigations” against me RIGHT DURING MY CAMPAIGN, which has never happened before and isn’t supposed to happen. FASCISTS ALL: FBI, DOJ, NEW YORK AG, NEW YORK D.A., ATLANTA D.A.”
Because they believe the Biden DOJ is unjustly favoring Biden over Trump, House Republicans are applying more pressure on it.
As previously reported by Breitbart News, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Jim Jordan (R-OH), requested the DOJ for details on the extent of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s inquiry into Biden’s classified document examination.
Jordan also requested the whole extent of Smith’s inquiry into Trump.
According to reports, prosecutors are investigating into whether Trump disobeyed government requests to collect secret materials from his Mar-a-Lago residence.
Former Trump spokesperson Taylor Budowich recently appeared before a grand jury in Miami as part of the materials inquiry and referred to it as “bogus and deeply troubling.” he tweeted:
“I fulfilled a legal need to appear in front of a federal grand jury today, and I answered each question honestly, in what can only be defined as a phony and very worrisome attempt to use the force of the government to “get” Trump. As a result of Joe Biden and the Democrats lust for power, America has degenerated into a sick and damaged country. This governmental weaponization will not deter me. The need to bring our country together and restore America’s greatness has never been more obvious to me than it is right now. That begins with electing President Donald J. Trump once again, which is a goal I won’t give up on.”
