Biden Awards “Crime Victim Amnesty” To Thousands

The majority of the migrants, who Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sent to Martha’s Vineyard eighteen months ago, are now eligible to work lawfully in the country because they are considered victims of crime, according to their attorney.

The deported migrants filed an application for a U-visa, a special kind of visa intended for victims of crime, last year after claiming they were duped into boarding charter flights from San Antonio, Texas, to Massachusetts with fictitious promises of employment and lodging.

Furthermore, according to their immigration attorney, Rachel Self, who spoke to the Boston Globe, at least three of the 49 migrants who were part of DeSantis (R-Fla.) 2022 flight deportation obtained “bona fide decisions” for their U-visa petitions this week.

They assert that this implies that they can now secure employment and avoid deportation while they wait for the processing of their visa. After holding a U-visa for three years, they can also apply for a Green Card, which can result in permanent legal status in the country.

The most recent events transpired when a Bexar County, Texas, sheriff opened a criminal investigation in late 2022 following DeSantis’s claim of ownership for the two taxpayer-funded migrant aircraft that touched down on Martha’s Vineyard following a brief stopover in Florida.

Elected Democratic Sheriff Javier Salazar criticized the flights that began in his community, saying that DeSantis was the one committing crimes against the migrants. Salazar claimed that DeSantis had “exploited and hoodwinked” them into undertaking this journey as part of a political ploy.

A DeSantis official stated at the time that immigrants, after abandonment, homelessness, and “left to fend for themselves,” have been more than happy to leave Bexar County. “As anticipated, Florida provided them with the chance to look for better opportunities in sanctuary jurisdictions with more resources available to them.”

The migrants may, however, apply for U-visas if the sheriff verifies that they were supporting his investigation.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services specifically reserves the U-visa for “victims of certain crimes who have had physical or mental abuse and are helpful to law enforcement or government personnel in the prosecution of criminal activities.”

Congress limits the number of U-visas that the federal government can issue annually to 10,000.

“Justice is one step closer with these determinations,” Self declared. “They also emphasize that it is impossible to overlook the actors’ wrongdoing for anyone who is aware of all the information.”

Despite the sheriff’s request that the district attorney file felony misdemeanor charges against the pilots who oversaw the flights, there have not been any updates on the Bexar County inquiry since last year.

The sheriff has asked for charges, but the Bexar County DA has not brought any of them.

It is alarming and impossible to overstate the Bexar County DA’s lack of action in this case, Self remarked. “Officers of the District Attorney. Why not?

This month, a federal court in Boston rendered a second decision, allowing the migrants involved in the Martha’s Vineyard flights to file a lawsuit against the charter airline Vertol Systems Co., which flew them there.
