Donald Trump’s Possible Jail Sentence Could Be Huge

Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Weissmann stated on MSNBC’s “Deadline” this week that it was quite possible that former President Donald Trump would receive a “significant” prison sentence following the 22-year sentence given to Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio for crimes that included seditious conspiracy.

“Twenty-two years is the harshest penalty in the Department’s January 6 prosecutions to date,” according to anchor Nicolle Wallace. “What do you think?”

Weissman said, “When Judge Kelly sentenced him, she said several things that showed she was very upset.” She said, “January 6, it can not happen again,” and she repeated, “It can not happen again.” She said that “Tarrio needs to get the strongest message possible.”

He also said, “This is bad for Donald Trump.” I’ve said this many times. It’s just a guess, but D.C. judges including Judge Chutkan, who have witnessed all of the January 6 cases, say that the leaders of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers will be doing a lot of time. I don’t think it’s likely that Donald Trump won’t go to jail if he is found guilty because the judges have been living through this in addition to seeing all the other defendants. The general you mentioned is the one who is said to have led this and for whom they were working. And it’s a slap in the face to the rule of law that subordinates would get this term but the boss wouldn’t.”
