This meme highlights what our dystopian future is going to be like if Twitter and Facebook ever gain as much control over our lives as they want. Nothing is going to stop this from happening unless Congress finally grows a spine and smashes these mega-corporations to bits under antitrust laws.
Which is why it’s so weird that so many conservatives got excited over Elon Musk this week. Musk bought a 13% stake in Twitter on Monday. Everyone from Tucker Carlson to Breitbart News was suddenly giddy and hopeful that Musk would “restore free speech” to the internet. He was suddenly the largest individual shareholder of Twitter.
And… nothing happened. Everyone realizes that a 13% stake in a company doesn’t make you the boss, right? Twitter’s board immediately voted to cap any single owner’s limit at 15% of the company’s shares, specifically to prevent Musk from ever becoming a majority shareholder.
Plus, no one seems to understand that Elon Musk is not a friend to conservatives. He bought up a bunch of Twitter shares because he doesn’t want Twitter to block Elon Musk’s tweets. He was never going to reinstate Donald Trump or other conservatives’ free speech rights.

This article claims that Musk only purchased Twitter shares to be able to voice his opinion and didn’t care about any other citizen’s free speech. That statement doesn’t hold any credence. Musk has stated that he desires to protect free speech. I take his statement that means all free speech regardless of the source. What proof does this article use to support its claim that Musk only wants to protect his own free speech?
