You’ve heard it a million times at this point: Bernie Sanders doesn’t want Soviet-style communism, he just wants America to look more like countries in Scandinavia.
Ah, yes the paradise of Sweden — the rape capitol of Europe. Who wouldn’t want to emulate this picture-perfect formula? After all, the country managed to establish a high standard of living for its own citizens — that is, before the country eroded its own borders in the name of humanitarian diversity.
And then there’s Norway — a country famous for oil drilling, snow, and church burnings done by people in weird face paint (depending on who you ask). You see, it isn’t the massive oil reserves the country is surrounded by that makes it wealth. It also has nothing to do with the fact that the state has little to no expenses for defense (it has a really well-armed friend in the western hemisphere). It’s because it’s socialist, right?
Of course, using the Scandinavia excuse is going to be Bernie’s go-to — because it ignores the fact that countries in Scandinavia do not have anything close to the role the United States does on the world stage. You certainly won’t be seeing them swoop in to fight genocidal regimes in the Middle East any time soon, nor will you see them stand up to authoritarian behemoths like China or Russia.
