The so-called millennial generation in the United States is the most educated cohort in the country’s history. Sadly, they also seem to be the most depressed.
There are a variety of reasons for this, but the biggest (and perhaps the most fixable) one is the idea that this entire generation was sold on the premise that every one can and must attend college to get ahead in life. Sadly, this often results in scores of young Americans shelling out a hysterical amount of cash to study a field which is neither marketable nor applicable.
This meme takes direct aim at this horrifying concept. Megan, the character on the left side of the image, is in the same boat as many young Americans who were convinced that majoring in things like gender studies, communications, or some obscure social science was a good idea. Mark, on the other hand, is getting by just fine after having invested just one year of his time and money at a trade school.
There is certainly a place for higher education. Law and STEM are just a few examples of where intensive college study may actually still be beneficial. But, convincing an entire generation to dump away their life savings to end up simply hating the free market is deplorable.
