Reminder: Gun Rights are Constitutionally Protected, Immigration Isn’t

This political cartoon begins with a caricature of an NRA member, complete with what looks like a military-grade weapon and a baseball cap. If you’re a liberal, you’ve already been told to hate this person already based on the image.

The character goes on to repeat the defense typically spread by Second Amendment supporters in the wake of mass shootings or crimes involving firearms. Of course, it sounds perfectly logical, and by all accounts it is. Then, a caricature of a Muslim woman — presumably an immigrant trying to obtain legal status in the United States — implores the man to draw the same conclusion about immigrants. At this point, the man is shown shouting at her.

All of this is designed to pull on your heart strings and generate compassion for illegal immigrants. And, it might almost work — that is, if you forget that gun rights are constitutionally protected, while immigration is certainly not.

Too often, liberals argue their support for immigration on legal grounds, but fail to take into account that the Constitution of the United States applies only to American citizens.
