Remember: The U.S. Pulled a “Brexit” Before it Was Cool (And it Worked)

The time around Independence Day is always a great time of year for patriotic memes. As we celebrate our independence from the British Empire this year, it’s nice to think of it as “the original Brexit,” no?

Although in our case, we were separating from the British Empire and in the Brits’ case right now, they’re trying to escape from the Fourth Reich, otherwise known as the “European Union.” One big irony of that situation is that our Brexit was against a much less evil foe than the Brits are facing today.

Anyway, good luck, Brits! We warned you! You signed up for the European Union anyway, and look how well it served you. Just sayin’.

At this time when Americans are grilling, popping off illegal fireworks and hoping that the cops don’t show up to slap us with a $10,000 fine for using illegal fireworks and not properly social distancing; and as we live in fear of saying something that will be misconstrued as “racism” that will cost us our livelihood and careers; and as we pray that they won’t lock the economy down against our collective will again over a virus that has a 99.6% survival rate; um… Happy… Independence? Sort of?
