A recent IBM study found that the growing use of AI technologies will mean that 40% of the world’s workers will need to “reskill” within the next three years.
ZDNet says that the fast development of AI technologies is changing how companies work and what skills their employees need to have. A new IBM study that looked at data from polls of C-level executives and workers shows that business leaders think AI will make big changes to the workforce and how businesses run.
The study found that leaders think that AI will require “reskilling” for 40% of their workers within the next three years. According to data from the World Bank, this is about 1.4 billion out of the 3.4 billion individuals who work around the world. 87 percent of the leaders polled, though, think that generative AI will add to jobs rather than take them away.
IBM’s study shows how important it is to learn new skills in the age of AI. According to the study, tech users who change their skills to adapt to changes in their jobs caused by technology reported an average 15 percent higher rate of income growth. Also, those who choose to focus on AI see their sales grow 36 percent faster than their peers. IBM said in the study, “AI is not going to replace people, instead people who use AI are going to replace people that don’t.”
The study also shows that the skills that are valued at work have changed. Skills that used to be very important, like being good at STEM, have become less important. On the other hand, skills with people are becoming more important. In an economy driven by AI, it’s becoming more important to be able to work well in a team, speak well, and adapt to change.
Breitbart News said before that Dirty Jobs presenter Mike Rowe thinks that the most job change will happen in white-collar jobs, rather than blue-collar jobs or skilled trades:
Rowe recently said in an appearance on The Big Money Show that he doesn’t think the rise of AI in the workplace will put blue-collar jobs at risk. He said that these jobs involve specific skills that are hard to copy with technology. “People used to claim that robots would make skilled work impossible.” Rowe commented, “Well, not really. I’ve never seen a robot plumber. I have not seen any robots that work as electricians. I also don’t think we’ll see that much computer intelligence used in skilled trades.”
What is so surprising, everyone should have seen this coming, everyone watches movies and marvel at what artificial intelligence can do and much faster than any human can, as a result? Most of us are merely repair personnel…. Well, this is something that people pretended that they did not see coming! Well now it is here and smacking us in the face! . There are still employment available, but mostly. Look around you there are not that many jobs out here and the ones available don’t pay anything, at least not enough to feed a family. I think we have made mankind obsolete! Now Biden and his cronies and going to make it impossible for humans to make a living.
