A number of House GOP members are now supporting a measure that seeks to rename Dulles Airport in honor of Trump in D.C.
The House Republican’s Chief Deputy Whip, Representative Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa.), is allegedly pushing the bill in an attempt to honor Trump.
“After the date of implementation of this Act, the Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia shall be called the Donald J. Trump International Airport,” according to the law. “Any reference to the airport mentioned in paragraph (a) in any law, rule, map, paper, or other record of the nation shall be deemed to be a reference to Trump International Airport,” the statement went on.
John Foster Dulles is the current name of the airport. During the Cold War, Dulles served as the US Secretary of State. From 1953 until 1959, he worked for President Eisenhower.
There are now six co-sponsors of this bill. The measure has the backing of Republican lawmakers Michael Waltz (R-Fla.), Chuck Fleischmann (R-Tenn.), Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.), Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), Troy Nehls (R-Texas), and Barry Moore (R-Ala.).
The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure has received the proposal from Reschenthaler.
It is unlikely to clear the Democratic-controlled Senate and the sharply split lower house, though. At the moment, the House is also on Easter vacation. On April 9, it will resume in session.
