Despite declining school enrollment and decreasing student proficiency scores, the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) is requesting a $50 billion legal contract with measures including free abortion, cash for migrants, concessions to the LGBTQ community, and a significant wage increase.
Even though the average annual salary of teachers in Chicago is currently $93,182, which is approximately $20,000 more than the average salary of teachers in the other parts of the state, which is $73,000, the contract the CTU is set to present demands a nine percent annual raise in pay through 2028.
As to Fox News, which cited the Illinois Policy Institute, the wage increase would propel Chicago teachers to the top of the national salary scale, with an annual salary of $144,620 by 2027.
Furthermore, the yearly salary would nearly double the typical family income for teachers in Chicago.
In order to put the $50 billion contract that the teachers are seeking in perspective, Fox News pointed out that the state of Illinois collected $50.7 billion in taxes overall in 2023. In other words, Chicago’s teachers believe they should receive the state’s whole tax revenue.
In order for instructors to maintain their eligibility to teach, the contract also requires the city to cover the cost of their yearly retraining on LGBTQ topics. One of the contract’s most extreme requests on LGBT issues is that the city construct “gender neutral” restrooms in each school. In addition, the CTU is pushing for a new law that forbids educators from informing parents when a student is transgender at school.
In addition, the CTU is requesting that the city issue a $2,000 payment to each immigrant kid for use toward academic support, “mental health therapy,” and transportation expenses.
Concurrently, a study from February said that in 55 Chicago public schools, not a single student met grade-level proficiency in arithmetic or reading.
Despite Joe Biden’s influx of illegal aliens, the number of children the Chicago Public School system educates is declining as residents leave the city, prompting calls for the massive wage increase.
In the academic year 2013–14, the CPS served almost 400,000 students, according to WTTW-TV. However, by 2023, there were only around 322,106 pupils overall—a decrease of nearly 80,000 students.

Let’s evaluate CPT’s on their ability to teach the basics. Not good. They should be paid on performance which means they should have 50B$ taken away from the system with a 9% decrease in pay each year the students are tested and do not meet proficiency in the 3 r’s. And for illegals entering this country they should get nothing. Stop the give aways. We do not even take care of US citizens or our veterans in this manner.

The Teachers Union should be sued for over $300B by every student the attended Chicago schools. They were not given an education, in light they graduated one of their own that can’ t read or write. So just what did they do to educate ???? From many of the comments, nothing. So, applying the simple pay for performance….they should be paying the city to come to class.
