Representative Ilhan Omar was called a “racist” over recent comments she made about white males, which some people found “disgusting.”
The offensive remarks were made by the Minnesota Democratic representative while speaking with Al Jazeera.
Omar remarked in a lighthearted way “I would say that America should be more afraid of white men throughout our country considering that they are actually responsible for the majority of the deaths in our country.”
Omar omits evidence indicating that white men are mostly responsible for most fatalities in the US in the brief video clip.
Twitter users reacted by denouncing Omar for what they saw as “racist” remarks she made about white males.
Breanna Morello, a reporter, said: “Ilhan Omar asked us to allow her into our nation because she is so afraid of white American guys. But unlike the Somalian men who drove her out of her own country, she sees white males as a threat. She found a married white man and forced him to break up with his wife since white males are so dangerous.”
According to columnist David Harsanyi, “It would have been improper to accuse other Americans of being racist on theocratic state television not so long ago.”
Vernon Jones, a former Democratic state lawmaker from Georgia who is now a Republican, says “She ought to be removed from Congress.”
Patrick Byrne, an entrepreneur: “Racist. She also lacks any data. Just empty assertions.”
According to author Kyle Becker: “This is not ‘reverse racism. Racism exists here. Straight out.”
Hannah Cox, a media strategist, said: “We should not be encouraging greater bias towards any demographic of people, actually.”
“She is not only a liar but also a racist,” according to the defense counsel Marina Medvin.
