Silicon Valley giant Google and its subsidiaries drew a line in the sand over the weekend after it was reported that YouTube “accidentally” removed various right-wing channels.
This isn’t the first time YouTube and its parent company have been implicated in censorship scandals. The platform has several times been criticized for targeting or flat-out removing conservative content creators. Recently, even centrist commentators like Sargon of Akkad have reported their live streams being interrupted for unexplained reasons.
Censorship of conservative opinions appears to be an endemic problem throughout the social media industry. Twitter, which openly platforms violent leftists like Antifa and Linda Sarsour, has removed the likes of Milo Yiannopolous for allegedly hurting people’s feelings on the internet. Facebook has been caught in similar behavior when it was revealed the company’s news curators actively filter out conservative content.
As time goes on, it becomes increasingly evident that a new platform is needed to truly embody what the internet was once such a valuable resource for: completely unfiltered free speech.
