In the days following a terrible string of mass shootings in El Paso, Daynton, and Chicago, President Donald Trump issued a statement condemning white supremacy by name. While only one of those shootings have been linked to the ideology, Trump dedicated the entirety of the press event to disavowing and condemning it. It was basically the picture-perfect presidential response.
Theoretically, the left should have been happy about this. Media outlets like the New York Times, CNN, HuffPost, and others have been making the case that Trump is too light on white nationalists, therefore empowering them to commit acts of violence. Well, there’s no other way to look at it — Trump made his feelings about white supremacy perfectly clear. There was no “very fine people” moment this time like there was in Charlottesville. He, in no uncertain terms, condemned this wicked ideology.
In response to this, the New York Times did something rare — the newspaper covered the press event accurately. But this was upsetting for one particular leftist, who said that a headline saying Trump “condemned hate” wasn’t accurate — even though it was. After AOC’s mob rushed in to join her in berating the paper, the New York Times changed its headline to highlight the fact that the presser was entirely about terrorism, and not about gun control.
So, there you have it — Democrats are literally telling the media how to do its job now, and they’re listening.
