It’s a phrase you’ve heard a lot over the years, and it really only pertains to one person: President Donald Trump.
Time and time again, Democrats in Congress wanted to emphasize the fact that executives are not above the law in America. And on the surface, it’s a reasonable thing to point out — it’s something we wish they understood when former State Secretary Hillary Clinton botched the handling of a military operation in Libya, and when former Attorney General Eric Holder supplied a bunch of weapons to Mexican drug cartels. Former President Barack Obama faced exactly no repercussions for any of this.
But when Donald Trump became president, suddenly accountability was super important again. Even though Robert Mueller wasn’t able to document any evidence that he colluded with the Russian government to win the election in 2016, Democrats in Congress wanted to keep the investigation going — because “no one is above the law.”
At the same time this has all been happening, migrant detention centers have been flooded as a result of unchecked border crossings. Now, crossing the border illegally is, well, illegal. They’re breaking the law. And no one is above the law, right?
Apparently, there are different rules for Republican presidents than there are for illegal immigrants…
