This tweet by libertarian commentator Stefan Molyneux perfectly explains the hypocritical state of neo-liberal tech institutions.
Google, Twitter, and Facebook are some of the largest and most powerful businesses the world has ever seen. While they are definitely private on paper, you could make the argument that because of the tax subsidies and government contracts they receive, they don’t exactly fall into the same category as that deli across the street. These companies have more political poll than most politicians.
The best proof of this is that they are legally allowed to discriminate which type of people get to use their services. While there is no written ban on right-wingers, it’s more than implied by the people they kick off their platforms — Alex Jones is perhaps the most famous example, and conservative activist Laura Loomer is just the most recent.
So, why are no-name Christian bakers forced to effectively support same-sex marriages which they oppose for religious reasons, but the most powerful companies in the world can discriminate against whoever they wish?
The best part about being a leftist is that you don’t have to follow your own rules.
