Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar is one of the fresh faces of the Democratic Party. Along with New York’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Michigan’s Rashida Tlaib, Omar is happy to be on camera as much as possible while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi struggles to contain this dumpster fire of a Congress.
Each of these fresh faces have accidentally exposed themselves for what they actually are several times less than three months into their lawmaking careers. AOC’s Green New Deal proved she is in fact an idiot, Tlaib’s obsession with identity politics earned her reprimand even from fellow Democrats, and it turns out Omar isn’t very fond of the Jews.
Now, let’s be clear on this: Omar and every other person in Congress is perfectly free to criticize Israel. Despite the Jewish State being a loyal ally to the United States, that does not put it above criticism. But the Minnesota Representative went further than that. She’s suggested (more than once) that the main reason American Jews support Israel is due to some ethnic “dual loyalty” and Jewish money. That is a blatantly anti-semitic statement, and she’s gotten away with it.
Republican Rep. Steve King, on the other hand, lost all his committee assignments and is set to be primaried for suggesting that white nationalism is okay. Clearly, Republicans and Democrats deal with their extremists a bit differently…
