This Blatant Lie About Eisenhower Needs to End Now

If you’re a misinformed or otherwise uneducated you American, you might read this and wonder why tax policy has changed at all since the end of the Second World War. Surely, the high taxes cited in this image are the reason why America enjoyed the economic boom it did in the aftermath of that bloody conflict, right?

Nothing in this meme is even remotely true. Under President Dwight D. Eisenhower, corporate taxes were closer to 50 percent, rather than the whopping 90 percent listed here. While it’s true that this is comparatively high when you account for the tax code now, there’s a reason cutting them has been a popular idea even for individuals outside of the top tax bracket.

The United States has among the highest corporate taxes in the industrialized world — and will continue to do so even after the GOP’s tax reform package becomes law.

If anything, Trump should be prepared to push for more cuts in the future.
