Not too long ago in terms of history, the people of Iraq turned out in droves to vote in their first real election ever. After decades of Saddam Hussein miraculously winning 100% of the vote in elections that the Iraqi people didn’t know had occurred, they were finally allowed to vote (Saddam was busy… hanging out. Heh!).
Unfortunately, a lot of people didn’t have ID because their houses fell over when America rescued them from Saddam Hussein. And we all know how important voter ID is in every single country on earth except America, where voter ID is racist.
To solve this lack of valid election ID documents problem, the Iraqis used the old indelible purple election ink on the finger trick. They lined up in crowded polling places, even though there was a very real risk that some jerk with a machine gun bolted to the bed of a Toyota would roll up on them and open fire.
No matter what you think of the Iraq War, it was pretty inspiring to see the people risk everything just to cast a ballot. Unlike America – as this meme points out – where you might get sick unless we force everyone to vote by mail.
