We haven’t really heard the left push for gun control in a while — probably because the Democrats have seen the writing on the wall, and fully understand that it’s a losing issue for them.
It’s certainly no accident that the loudest cries for gun bans or other restrictive legislation only come in the immediate aftermath of mass shootings — particularly ones the mainstream media can report on for weeks at a time. We still know basically nothing about the Las Vegas shooting in 2017, but the students-turned-activist Parkland students are household names.
Nevertheless, we can surmise that it’s only a matter of time before we’re locked into the same debate again. Any crime that can be remotely linked to firearms will receive the same treatment, and again we’ll have to pretend that being a victim of a tragedy somehow denotes expertise on public policy.
When this inevitably happens, we’ll have to point to the hypocrisy behind the left demonizing every type of law enforcement imaginable, while simultaneously arguing that said personnel should be the only armed people in America. At this point, you really can only take a step back and admire the mental gymnastics involved.
