It doesn’t get much more dense than this…
In an odd attempt to draw a false equivalency between mainstream Christianity and the more extreme elements of Islam, left-leaning Facebook pages shared this image around Christmas — the underlying message being that Americans would be fine with dropping a MOAB on their Lord and Savior.
Of course, anyone with even an elementary school-level understanding of Christianity understands that this argument makes no sense whatsoever.
Whether you happen to be religious or not, the story of Jesus of Nazareth is one of revolution and monumental social change. Jesus was a controversial figure during his time precisely because he preached revolutionary ideas: that sins can be forgiven on Earth, that men and women should respect one another regardless of social status, and that the state ought not to get involved with spirituality.
This makes Jesus incredibly different from the regimes which currently dominate the Middle East. In countries like Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and others, religious views are closely managed by a governing elite, and every attempt to liberalize the culture is immediately met with violent opposition.
