Despite his presidency being decades old, President Ronald Reagan is still the standard by which every other Republican president — or any Republican politician at all — is measured.
There are a lot of reasons for this, not the least of which is summed up in the quote to the left.
For one, President Reagan was unapologetic in his patriotism. He was never afraid to share his love for the United States and the beacon of freedom it represented to the rest of the world at the climax of the Cold War. He was also never afraid to share his scorn for the Soviet Union and the evils of communism. This was a man who spoke plainly and profoundly at the same time. This president was a lot of things — a mystery was certainly not one of them.
Adding to that, Reagan was able to extend this patriotism to his constituents. Even as a committed conservative, this president was able to inspire the youth to love their country as much as he did. Today, we often talk about how to draw more young Americans to the conservative side, even though Ronald Reagan already showed us how.
So, as we move into another politically tense election cycle, let’s do well to keep these words of wisdom in mind.
