Parkland shooting survivor Daniel Hogg has become the face of the gun control movement since 17 of his classmates were killed by a fellow student. Since the dreadful incident, he has landed himself regular interviews on cable news networks as well as a verified Twitter account.
Hogg isn’t alone. Several of his other classmates have jumped on the bandwagon, with the notable exception of fellow survivor Kyle Kashuv — who opposes gun control and supports Second Amendment rights. Kashuv’s Twitter account isn’t verified.
Hogg and his contemporaries, all of which have been effectively rewarded for simply saying things about guns that the left likes, have been treated as topical experts on guns, mass shootings, and Congressional lobbying. Apparently, being a survivor of a tragic event makes you an expert on seemingly everything related to it.
While we can sympathize with Hogg and his friends, it’s important to remember that expertise is obtained through years of intense study, training, and experience. Traumatic events alone shouldn’t give you a platform for advocating for stripping away Constitutional rights.
