How Would Restaurants Work Under Communism?

More than anything, the modern American left is experiencing levels of amnesia not seen since the dawn of time.

In the original tweet featured here, this user tries to make the case for communism by stating that individuals of every income level would be able to enjoy dining at the same locations — because class-based divisions would be effectively abolished. We’re not sure if anyone has told him that not a whole lot of restaurants care about your social standing if you have the funds to pay for their food, but we’ll overlook that for now.

The response by libertarian commentator Eric July is right on the money. Under a communist system, it is true that everyone will have the same hypothetical dining experience — because there would be no experience to speak of.

Communist governments have experienced scarcity wherever they rise up. Even in oil-rich Venezuela, civilians are forced to track down vermin to make up for the fact that food redistribution efforts have been a colossal failure.

This just underscores the fact all of us should have been on the same page on when the Soviet Union collapsed 30 years ago — communism doesn’t make us all equally rich, but it does make us equally poor.
