This is probably the most tired rhetorical tactic out there. Not only has it ceased being humorous in any fashion, it’s become purely lazy.
Now, we’ve reported on the numerous inaccuracies that come with comparing Donald Trump — or really any American politician — to a man who implemented a totalitarian regime and massacred millions in the process. Sadly, this will probably not be the last time we do so.
Adolf Hitler is one of the most notorious villains in world history, and constantly invoking his name to insult ideological dissenters does a great disservice to understanding exactly how Nazism scarred Europe and the planet at large.
Unlike the Nazi leader, Trump has not singled out any demographic for annihilation. The president’s critics often point to his travel ban as some sort of parallel with the ‘Final Solution’, but there is simply no comparison between bolstering border security and relocating lawful residents into death camps. This is nothing short of insulting.
Donald Trump isn’t Hitler. Barack Obama wasn’t Hitler. Even Franklin Roosevelt, who forcefully moved Japanese-Americans into interment camps during World War II, wasn’t Hitler either.
Hitler was Hitler.
If liberals wish to levy serious criticisms against the president — who is certainly not above this — they need to ditch this intellectually void tactic.
