How an Entire Generation Embraced Socialism

To be fair, millennials definitely face a unique set of challenges in the United States. The cost of living has soared dramatically since their parents came of age, and the job market shifted rapidly in terms of what it demands from employees all while they were still being educated.

But, instead of working around what most agree is a broken system by bypassing overpriced private university education, millennials have by and large doubled down on their faith in whatever professors will tell them.

With the value of a liberal arts degree plummeting, millennials have been led to believe that they can’t find high-paying jobs or affordable housing because older generations have stolen it from them. Along with this resentment comes scorn for traditionalism and capitalism as general concepts, making the vague promises of socialism all that more appealing.

It’s important for older generations to remember that, while millennials are certainly voting against their best interests by supporting politicians like Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren, they are still favorable to capitalism — they just don’t understand it.

Correcting this trend will require serious changes to how we approach education, and how we view those expensive bachelor’s degrees millennials have been wrongly convinced they absolutely need.
