It’s time to toss out your George Orwell novels — the dystopian concept of “wrongthink” is no longer a work of fiction.
In late March, YouTube commentator and comedian “Count Dankula” was convicted for making “grossly offensive” jokes on the internet. While the sentence doesn’t seem too severe, the fact that he was convicted at all sets a very dangerous precedent for the country that practically invented capitalism and liberal democracy.
News of the conviction broke just a week after several conservative journalists were detained for just trying to get into the country. YouTube personality Lauren Southern was forced to wander around Calais after authorities uncovered material that made off-hand remarks about Islam. the materials in question were called racist, despite Islam not being a race at all.
This is a grim outlook for the United Kingdom — the same country which produced the Magna Carta and Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations, a treatise on free trade and the freedom of labor.
Despite breaking from the European Union, the United Kingdom has followed along with many of the bloc’s initiatives — including accepting untold numbers of self-described “refugees” feeling war-torn countries in the middle east. This rise in immigration has been associated with a surge in violent crime, a topic right-of-center personalities are targeted for simply addressing. Hopefully, the UK will find a way to change course.
