You know that New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is deeply important because everyone uses an acronym to refer to her. After she secured the most easily winnable election of all time, the 29-year-old embraced the name as her new Twitter handle.
Now, we all know about this “fresh face” lawmaker because the media absolutely refuses to stop talking about her. We’re told that she is wise beyond her years, that she is a social media genius, and that she speaks for the entirety of the millennial generation. Considering that she was having trouble finding an apartment before she could be sworn into the House of Representatives, that last bit might actually be true — but we digress.
AOC has taken to complaining about how she is portrayed in the media lately, because Republicans can’t seem to help themselves from “pouncing” on her when she says and does stupid things. This may include such gems as walking to the wrong office to call out Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, or blaming the stupid things on her website on Russian trolls. Never does it seem to occur to her that she may have to just stop being an idiot for five minutes.
Nevertheless, AOC continues to enjoy near-universally positive media coverage — because she is a minority woman with big opinions. The opinions are idiotic, but they’re so “fresh” the media can’t help it.
