After weeks of re-counts and what seems like blatant voter fraud, the gubernatorial election in Florida has finally been called — the Sunshine State’s next governor will be Republican Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis, who ran on a pro-Trump, pro-business platform, narrowly defeated Democrat Andrew Gillum — who ran on a Bernie Sanders-style progressive platform that would have fundamentally transformed one of the strongest economies on America’s east coast.
The story of the recount is perhaps even more perplexing than the election itself. While it’s true that Florida law mandates automatic recounts when election results fall within a certain threshold, it also dictates that results be turned in within 48 hours. Broward County election officials — particularly Jeb Bush appointee Brenda Snipes — routinely ignored this.
This is why Governor-elect Ron DeSantis is so elated right now — he’s technically been elected twice in two weeks. That’s a very long victory party.
