A California State Assembly committee led by Democrats rejected a bill this week that would’ve classified trafficking involving minors as “serious felonies.” The State Senate had previously overwhelmingly approved the Republican measure.
The bill, SB 14, was presented by Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield), who also noted that California leads the nation in the number of incidents of child trafficking that have been documented. Trafficking a kid being classified as a “serious felony” would eliminate most opportunities for plea bargaining and force the crime to fall under the “Three Strikes” rule, which was passed in the 1990s and provides for life in prison after three felony convictions.
Grove stated this week that the bill was not advanced by the Public Safety Committee, which was chaired by Assemblyman Reggie Jones-Sawyer (D-South LA).
Jones-Sawyer is also the author of a law that would permit judges to “rectify racial bias” in the criminal justice system through criminal punishment.
Grove stated in a statement:
“I was hoping that Democrats on the Public Safety Panel, chaired by Assemblyman Reggie Jones-Sawyer, would support the proposal to declare sex trafficking involving a minor a severe felony after it passed the Senate through a unanimous, bipartisan vote. I am really unhappy that the committee’s Democrats, who have a steadfast and illogical resistance to any increase in penalties regardless of how horrible the crime, could not persuade themselves to approve the measure.”
“Because of our lax punishments, California is a hotspot for this tragedy, which is becoming more and more common and disproportionately affects minority girls. The terrible truth is that until Assembly Democrats take action, trafficked children are going to continue being raped and abused on Figueroa Street and throughout California. I will keep working with the committee and fighting for Californians who are furious with their decision since the measure has been granted review.”
“SB 14 was defeated in the Assembly Public Safety Committee with 2 Republicans voting yes and 6 Democrats abstaining. Reconsideration was also granted for the legislation.”
Reconsideration is a possibility for the measure, thus it still has a chance of passing.

Our main reason for leaving was that the Public Schools in San Diego County were overcrowded (35 kids in one elementary classroom with only 1 teacher and no assistants and NO parents allowed on campus for any reason), plus major drugs, gangs and weapons allowed on elementary school campuses! Not to mention the crazy Taxes! If we still lived there we would be paying over $18,000 a year county taxes on our middle class home in a blue collar neighborhood! No thanks!
The question then becomes what are they afraid of? Is it about the kids or not? What is lost here? Is this the resignation of conscious thoughts, our hearts, our soul to protect those unable to. Would we not agree 100% that this is a severity of securing and protecting there life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as our obligations to help in ensuring they can at least even obtain this. If we give up on child protection then we aren’t human and the livelihood of humanity will cease to exist.

Personally these politicians need to be take out! It has always been a laws against CHILD TRAFFICKING AND A CRIME! Thing gone bottom up since Biden was put in office! His whole administration is nothing but criminal who want to destroy the children life! It going to take ALL AMERICA PEOPLE TO STOP THIS! Or Biden can release those who sitting in prison from years ago on CHARGE OF CHILD TRAFFICKING! Your choice, you love your children or you care less about them.
There’s a probability that those That are not willing to do what’s right for children are involved in that type of business. They do not care about protecting kids, if it would be their kids they would help. Those governing California are the worst people, for they don’t care about children.
These Dems are not qualified to be in any legislative position. In fact, they are not qualified to be a part of any rational society.
