A German right-wing politician found guilty of hate crime was fined thousands of dollars for stating that immigrants, especially Afghan nationals, commit a disproportionate number of gang rapes, and for asking if multiculturalism entails accepting rape culture.
The conservative Alternative for Germany has Marie-Thérèse Kaiser among its members. A former model and current 27-year-old activist for women’s safety, she is the sole party representative in the Rotenburg district council.
During the 2021 federal election campaign, Kaiser made the following social media post: “Afghanistan migrants; Hamburg SPD mayor for ‘unbureaucratic’ acceptance; welcoming culture for gang rape?”
In August 2021, Kaiser was reportedly reacting to the declaration by socialist Hamburg Mayor Peter Tschentscher that he would accept 200 Afghan laborers, according to the German daily Junge Freiheit. The potential effects of the incoming cohort on local customs and security were clearly a worry for Kaiser.
Asylum seekers from Africa and Afghanistan “are proportionately 40x and 70x more involved in gang rapes than Germans,” according to official figures cited with her tweet.
Concerned about unchecked immigration and the prospect of rape by “culturally foreign hordes,” the then-AfD candidate used the data to back up her worries.
There has been a dramatic increase in violent crime, including rape, in Germany in recent years, coinciding with the enormous influx of people from Middle Eastern countries like Afghanistan.
According to the Pew Research Centre, between 2010 and 2016, Germany welcomed 670,000 refugees and 680,000 immigrants who were not refugees. During that time, some 1.35 million people immigrated to Germany, with an estimated 850,000 of them being Muslims.
During the height of the immigration crisis, which former German Chancellor Angela Merkel oversaw—opening the union’s doors to refugees from Syria and other eastern states—a government-commissioned study found that violent crime increased by 10.4 percent. To achieve this, Merkel effectively bypassed EU regulations. Immigrants, especially young men (14–30 years old), were responsible for 90% of the spike in violent crime, according to Deutsche Welle.
According to the BBC, in 2017, asylum seekers and refugees made up more than 10% of murder suspects and 11.9% of sex offenders, even though they only made up a small fraction of the total population.
There has been no improvement.
According to a report by Reuters last month, the number of offenders whose roots are not German is on the rise. In 2023, overall crime increased by 5.5%, while the number of suspects with foreign backgrounds increased by 13.5%.
Fresh crime data have sparked a debate on “foreigner crime,” as Richard Graupner of the AfD in Bavaria stated.
In addition to victimizing innumerable Germans, imported crime has given rise to dreadful new traditions.
For example, it seems like gang attacks on German women and immigration riots happen every year on New Year’s Eve. The majority of the rioters apprehended in the latest outbreak of unrest around the new year were not citizens, according to an earlier report by Blaze News. Among them were twenty-one Syrians and twenty-seven Afghans.

In 2016, an Afghan criminal brutally raped and murdered Maria Ladenburger, a 19-year-old medical student. The horrific crime “helped strengthen the country’s extreme right,” as pointed out by the BBC.
Instead, it appears that the German government views the AfD as an issue and has implemented measures such as filtering and harassing party members. Some have even proposed outright banning the AfD in light of its second-place national polling and upcoming state elections later this year.
By voicing his worries about a serious national issue, Kaiser allegedly faced charges of inciting hatred, which led to his conviction. She mentioned in February that she planned to appear in court in May after appealing the judgment.
She wrote on X that the establishment’s refusal to accept truth should be grounds for declaring the mere mention of numbers, dates, and facts a criminal felony. “No amount of censorship can ever silence me.”
