All too often, Twitter provides the perfect theater for uncovering exactly why the “most qualified presidential candidate in history” lost an election to a potty-mouthed reality television star.
Jerry Seinfeld has been out of the public spotlight for what seems like decades, but for whatever reason the dated comic feels he has the leverage the Democratic left needs to fulfill the dream of throwing Donald Trump out of the White House.
In the tweet, the 90s relic promises to bring back his namesake series on the condition that a democratically elected president is removed from office. Sounds just a little elitist, right?
Of course, Seinfeld is perfectly within his right to make such a statement, but the underlying arrogance is more than a bit telling on how celebrities view themselves.
Seinfeld isn’t alone. Nearly every big screen and small screen personality has sounded off on Twitter with similar messages, convinced that their status as professional pretenders gives them some higher level of insight the layman simply isn’t capable of.
It is this arrogance — this overt elitism — that turned the blue-collar worker away from the progressive message. Considering the president’s uncanny ability to trip on his own words, make countless enemies, and constantly double down on controversial statements, you would figure the left would be complicit with sitting back and letting Trump become his own undoing. Apparently, this sort of foresight is absent from the Hollywood elite.
