White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated on Wednesday that three Democratic state lawmakers from Tennessee will be recognized at the White House for interfering with a legislative session.
Legislators Justin Pearson (D) and Justin Jones (D) were kicked out of the chamber earlier in March for sabotaging democratic discourse by working with gun demonstrators who occupied the Tennessee Capitol. A vote to remove Gloria Johnson (D), a third representative, was narrowly defeated. Jones and Pearson were both reinstated by the local governments in their respective areas.
Following the shooting at the Nashville Covenant School, there was a demonstration that supporters of the Second Amendment referred to as an uprising.
According to Jean-Pierre, “Biden wants to thank them for speaking out, defending themselves, and for being straightforward about what is needed for our community.”
Peter Doocy of Fox News questioned whether any of the Nashville Covenant School massacre victims had also been extended an invitation to the White House.
Doocy began to say, “You are going to have three of the legislators who protested,” but was cut off.
Jean-Pierre added, “Peacefully protested.”
“Peacefully protested,” Doocy said again before continuing his inquiry, “after the Nashville Covenant School shooting. Has the White House sent an invitation to any of the victims or their family members?”
Jean-Pierre said, “I do not have anything that could be read out to you on any invitation.”
