Have you ever noticed the biggest difference between Republican and Democratic campaigns? Sure, the policy differences are obvious — that’s sort of the point. But, there’s an even larger disparity in the tone — the fundamentals of what these politicians really all want from us.
When progressives campaign for your vote, they typically talk about what they are going to give you in exchange for your support. But, it comes with a caveat, because they also want to take something from you — usually, you’re own property.
When conservatives ask for your vote, their promises circle around what they are not going to take from you — again, usually referring to your property. But it’s bigger than that. At the end of the day, conservatism comes with the promise that your very liberties will not be accosted.
Of course, there’s also that one candidate every four years that can’t accept that his glory days are behind him — mainly because he can’t remember when those glory days took place.
