As you’ve without a doubt seen if you have a Facebook profile, users have taken to uploading old pictures of themselves alongside current ones as part of the so-called “ten-year challenge” we’re all supposed to participate in.
Now, maybe you’re not the type to get caught up in social media trends, but the fad has become a great template for some pretty solid memes. This is one of them.
Let’s take a trip down memory lane. Ten years ago, unemployment was skyrocketing, particularly among black and hispanic Americans. The so-called “Great Recession” seemed to have no end in sight, with financial media dubbing new terms like “jobless recovery” to describe the economy. At the same time, America’s military remained trapped in two conflict theaters, with their efforts for stabilizing the Middle East paralyzed every time the commander-in-chief essentially broadcasted his plans for everyone (including terrorists) to hear. It wasn’t the best time to be in America.
Fast-forward to today, and blacks and hispanics living in the country are enjoying their lowest-ever unemployment levels. The economy is still roaring despite a setback on the stock market in December, and President Donald Trump has taken troops out of conflict zones for which he sees no victory. It’s actually a pretty great time to be in America.
So, with all of that, it’s fair to say that America’s ten-year challenge looks pretty amazing.
