What do we really celebrate on Columbus Day?
Think about it: do we venerate the Italian explorer who made an accidental landing, exploited an underdeveloped tribal civilization, and spent the rest of his life believing Cuba was part of India?
Or, do we normally just appreciate the discovery of the New World, and the subsequent migrations that followed?
Who are we kidding, you probably know the answer…
The thing is, there is a reason to write off Christopher Columbus as a person. His own writings reflect exactly what he thought about the population he discovered. He essentially admitted that they would be perfect slaves for Europeans, because of their technological inferiority. But leftists act like this is the reason why Columbus Day is a holiday. It isn’t. Intent matters when it comes to holidays, and the truth is that this holiday’s intent is to honor Europe’s revolutionary discovery.
Wasn’t migration a human right? Or, is it only good until white people do it?
