Earlier this week, it was announced that Empire actor Jussie Smollett will face no criminal charges for faking a hate crime with anti-Trump themes.
Here’s just a quick refresher for anyone who forgot: Smollett is an actor that nobody heard or cared about until about five minutes ago. Smollett, in a proven attempt to boost his name recognition and pay as an actor, wrote a fake hate letter to himself that included a non-lethal powder. When that didn’t turn up enough publicity, Smollett paid two Nigerian body builders to dress up as racist white supremacists — complete with MAGA hats, bleach, and a rope — to stage an attack against him at two o’clock in the morning during a polar vortex on the streets of Chicago.
When Smollett made his “attack” public, we were all met with woke tears from the left. California Senator Kamala Harris used this as evidence that America has become a deeply racist place under President Donald Trump. New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, who along with Harris is running for president, echoed the same tone. Both of them became curiously silent when Chicago police disclosed that the crime was then being investigated as a hoax.
So, how did Jussie get off with so much evidence stacked against him? We think we have an idea…
