It’s a topic we’ve discussed time and time again here, but the regressive left manages to keep it a current topic — Donald Trump was elected President of the United States because Americans don’t like being force-fed the idea that their country and culture are terrible.
With Trump nearing the finish line of his first year in the White House, critics are already talking about 2020 as if it’s a done deal. Despite almost no legislative changes since the transition, Democratic leaders like Chuck Schumer and Nanci Pelosi seem confident they have both the upcoming midterm elections and even the next presidential election in the bag.
The hard truth is that this might be true if their supporters weren’t so reactionary.
The NFL protests are perhaps the best example, since they are so culturally relevant. While there is no legal or legislative battle over whether it’s appropriate to kneel when the national anthem is being recited, Trump scores easy points with the American people by condemning the practice. Americans, as the label implies, like America. It’s as simple as that. The left buries itself by supporting the millionaire players who appear to believe that they’ve somehow been treated unfairly.
If Republicans want to really win big during the next election cycle, their best option may be to keep doing what they’re doing after all.
