90s sitcom star Roseanne Barr was forced to end the revival of her namesake program early after publishing a tweet comparing a former Obama official to a character from Planet of the Apes.
Barr’s program was enjoying high ratings before the incident, and appeared to be written specifically to appeal to working-class Americans living in what the mainstream media likes to call “flyover states”. Another interesting aspect of the program included its nuanced take on politics: Barr’s family on the show are Trump supporters. Obviously, the left was going to find some reason to hate this one way or another.
The tweet in question compared former Obama official Valerie Jarret to an ape-like character, garnering a swift and hostile reaction from social media users who lamented the statement’s racist implications. Barr has since stated that she didn’t even know Jarret was black, and has repeatedly apologized.
That last part alone is what separates Roseanne from the very media that crucified her. Seriously ask yourself: how serious did late night host Samantha Bee seem when she delivered the most cookie-cutter apology possible after calling Ivanka Trump the “c-word” simply for sharing a photo of herself and her child online? If you can stomach hypocrisy at the highest level, watch videos of both women apologizing, and decide for yourself who appears more genuine.
