When Donald Trump was just a reality TV star with a real estate empire, the left absolutely adored him. He was part of their world, and he played the game they wanted him to play.
Sure, he epitomized everything the far-left would come to hate even back then, but he got a special pass for effectively being part of the mainstream media. He made special appearances at events hosted by the likes of Al Sharpton, a man who made the bulk of his wealth by bullying companies into proving that they’re not racist.
It wasn’t just Al Sharpton, either. Trump also hosted Saturday Night Live, a program which is now dedicated to making fun of him. He was making cameos on blockbuster films as early as the 1990s, most famously during a brief scene on Home Alone II: Lost in New York.
There is only one way to make this meme more accurate. The derision for Trump didn’t start with him becoming president. It started with him becoming a conservative. For most of his life, Trump called himself a Democrat, and advocated for Democratic causes including single-payer healthcare. Once Trump grew out of this phase (it’s frankly never too late, in our opinion), the left-wing media grew out of him.
That’s what this antagonism has really been all about — revenge for leaving the circle.
