Vice President Kamala Harris said on “CBS Mornings” on Wednesday that the coronavirus epidemic was to blame for President Joe Biden’s low poll ratings because, among other things, “Children lost really big gaps in terms of their educational process, and the impacts of all that linger.”
Gayle King, the co-host, questioned, “Madam Vice President, he spelled out very eloquently and presented in great detail what your government has achieved. However, recent surveys reveal that Americans continue to believe that economic policies are worsening their lives and that they are not feeling better off. What can you do to spread the word? We are aware of the long number of accomplishments, but for some reason, the word isn’t getting through to a lot of people. What is your response to this? What are you doing in response?”
“Well, listen, I believe that we really need to recognize that we went through a historic epidemic, which led to the loss of about a million — over a million people,” Harris said. “Jobs were lost by people. They suffered a loss of normality. Children suffered from unusually large educational gaps, and the consequences are being felt today.”
