Independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who popularized the term “democratic socialist” during his run for president in 2016, is a hero for young American leftists — and it’s easy to see why.
Like many millennials today, Sanders has an innate derision for large corporations, people who make more money than him, allegedly unfair business practices, and seemingly work as a general concept.
For everything we say about socialists on this site, we really have to hand it to Sanders. He doesn’t just talk the talk, he walks the walk. This is the man who didn’t have a paying full-time until he was elected to the U.S. Senate. In fact, there are reports that he was so lazy that his time spent at a hippie commune was cut short because the people there thought he was too lazy. Apparently, he was more interested in talking politics than actually contributing to the community — which is the entire point of living in a commune.
