Fact Check: Free Speech Includes Hate Speech

With this image, we see liberal content creators trying to turn the snowflake card around to use against conservatives.

In the top portion of the picture, we see images of several things which garnered conservative criticism, including Colin Kaepernick’s protest against national anthem, a pro-abortion march, and some Stabucks cups. The purpose of that last item is a bit ambiguous, but we can assume it refers to the company’s history of promoting progressive ideas.

The image is mocking the right’s defense of free speech, which by every legal definition includes speech by entho-nationalists. While white nationalists deserve every bit of scorn they receive for their twisted ideas, they are nevertheless granted the same rights to express themselves as anyone else in America.

The truth is that not one prominent conservative has effectively endorsed the ideas of the protesters seen in Charlottesville. It’s also true that, while the images in the top row definitely didn’t sit well with the right, you didn’t see any significant push from Republicans to “ban” any of those things — including pro-choice demonstrations.

This is all underscored by the left’s de facto worship of government. While liberty-minded individuals seem perfectly capable of criticizing speech, there is almost never a call to abolish said speech. The left, on the other hand, often finds itself becoming the very fascists they say they hate, because that’s exactly what banning speech is: fascism.
