If Occupy Democrats was ever good for anything, it’s providing us with an endless supply of material.
Here, we see Lady Liberty burying her face in tears over America’s tragic fall from grace. Out of no where, it seems, the abomination of slavery and the brutality of the Nazis have jumped out of our history books and landed straight into our backyards. How far have we fallen to allow this to happen?
This is literally the prompt we get from this meme, which seems to suggest there is a serious mainstream debate about both Nazism and slavery – which was thankfully abolished by a Republican president during the Civil War.
The reality is that no one is defending slavery of any kind in the United States. Even among fringe circles of the so-called “alt-right”, those basement dwellers seem to prefer “white separatism” to somehow reinstating slavery, which they likely understand would undercut their own wages (it’s economically impossible to compete with free labor).
As for the Nazis, it’s more or less the same thing. Outside of Richard Spencer and his small bunch of low-informed idiots who like to troll around with frog memes and throw up Bellamy Salutes, even the far-right in America typically rejects national socialism and at least most of the ugliness that comes with it. This isn’t to say that they don’t exist, but their presence and influence has been hugely exaggerated.
