CNN: Where Socialism is “Cool”

On Martin Luther King Day, CNN sent out a tweet that prompted an almost immediate backlash — particularly from individuals who have lived through the very real horrors socialism can bring.

To be fair, Martin Luther King’s political preferences have been fiercely debated. Popular claims that King was a devout socialist, at least later in his career, may in fact be credible. However, this is hardly the legacy he left behind.

That isn’t the problem with this tweet. The problem is that CNN referred to an ideology that has in some way been linked to the deaths of around 90-100 million people in the 20th century alone as something cool and hip.

Socialism’s effects on economies and personal freedoms aren’t theoretical, and haven’t been for some time. They are also hardly a relic of the past, evidenced by the fact that Venezuelans have been forced to hunt down zoo animals just to stay alive. You don’t need a history book to tell you that Marxism is deadly in practice.

Keep this in mind the next time CNN or any other major media outlet refers to socialism as some kind of trendy thing.
