America Isn’t Broken — At Least, Not Yet

Since President Donald Trump took office, liberals in the media and beyond have liked to pretend that the United States is breaking at the seems. Conveniently, they too often seem to forget that the economy is booming, ISIS is on the brink of destruction, and American businesses are once again investing domestically.

According to this cartoon, the entire country has crumbled.

“I want things to be different,” the character representing the American voter says before smashing everything in his room with a bat.

Of course, the intent here is to explain the election result as a knee-jerk reaction to a tired status quo. In a sense, this is entirely true. However, it severely underestimates the intelligence of the average American.

Under conventional presidencies, administrations have had the unfortunate tendency to kick the can down the road. This is why, 16 years after the 9/11 attacks, the United States is still engaged in a war against radical Islam. Considering this, the appeal of a populist president promising to reform the system from within should not be surprising — but apparently it is.
