In an interview with Univision that aired on Tuesday, President Joe Biden said that he would think about enacting additional executive action regarding guns. He also chastised former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for president in 2024, for having “famously told the NRA that, do not worry, no one’s going to touch your guns” if he won.
“Gun violence is the number one cause of mortality for children in America,” inquired interviewer Enrique Acevedo. It has become a major focus for Latinos nationwide, particularly in Texas cities like Uvalde and El Paso. It seems doubtful that Congress will enact sensible gun legislation in the next few months, despite your administration’s request. If re-elected, would you consider taking more executive action on this matter?
In response, Biden said, “Certainly. Look, Dianne Feinstein and I passed the first assault weapon ban as well as the maximum number of rounds allowed in a rifle. The notion that an AR-15 rifle requires 100 rounds is something I encountered while in Uvalde. I had meetings with each of those families. We talked for four hours. I saw the anguish on their faces. I could see their emotions. It was palpable to me. We do not have background checks for anyone buying a weapon, and the idea that we are going to be in a position where he said that — he told the NRA that, do not worry, nobody’s going to come for your guns if I — from the very start, there were limitations. And the phrase [in] another context where there was a mass shooting, I think it was in El Paso, he said — they said what to do about it, and he said, Just get over it, you have got to get over it. One could not possess a cannon. You may own a gun or a rifle, but there are things you cannot do with them. They were not weapons. And so, you know, we recently enacted a law that forbids the manufacture of weapons that are impossible to track, marking the first significant piece of gun regulation that we have passed in over thirty years. In addition, it is insufficient. We need to do more, in my opinion, and I really believe this. I have submitted this request to Congress, and we will continue to do so if I win another election. We intend to ensure the abolition of these weapons.”
The turely American people are tired of hearing about gun control because guns kill people. It is tragic that people do kill others but it is not the guns fault. Only PEOPLE with guns kill others. Most of the killers either stole the guns or lied to get them. Just yesterday, a court found the parents guilty due to their child killing others with their guns. This is going too far. This is a money and vote play. Just as taking the gun manfacturer to court because their gun was used in a crime. If our country is going in that direction: sue the vehicle manfacturer of the drunk driver who killed someone. On and on and on. Then sue thier parents. Sue Sue Sue.
