On “Fox & Friends Weekend,” Yuma Medical Center President and CEO Dr. Robert Transchel said that during the past six months, his institution had paid $20 million for uncompensated treatments of migrant patients.
“For us, it has been a long trip,” Transchel added. “This has been ongoing for well over a year. We kept track of our uncompensated treatment for more than six months, and we came to the conclusion that we had given unpaid care to border crossers worth more than $20 million.”
“We just don’t have a payer source,” he said. “No one has a solution, but everyone is sympathetic and willing to listen. More than a year has passed since it began. The migrants who are crossing the border have received $20 million in medical care, but we just lack a payer source for them. To have these steadily escalating costs without a revenue stream to offset them is not a viable business strategy.”
“We are going to keep operating,” Transchel continued. “Hospitals have an extremely slim profit margin. Every year, they operate with a 2–3% margin, and we follow the same rule. As a result, we’re good now and we’ll be good tomorrow. The issue is that if this goes on, it will only become worse and become a bigger issue.”
Like any business, hospitals operate for profit. Maybe not a large scale profit but still profit. If they can’t afford to pay their staff the will close. Many hospitals won’t take American citizens if they have no insurance, but are forced to take illegals with no payment at all.
another peril of the biden admin “come on into America without any problems” crap!
