CNN host Chris Cuomo, widely considered to be the dumber of the Cuomo brothers (which also includes New York’s Democratic governor), has had a rough week.
It’s been a meme on the right to refer to the CNN host as “Fredo”, a reference to the dumber brother in the Godfather movies. For those who aren’t familiar with the reference, the films are considered to be especially beloved by Italian Americans, despite the fact that it depicts a rather bleak part of their history in the United States.
Italian heritage is rather common in New York, especially in the Big Apple — where Cuomo broadcasts his show. Apparently, someone (who probably doesn’t like CNN too much) walked up to him in a public space, and referred to him as “Fredo.” Cuomo reacted furiously, taking a moment to explain that the term is like “the n-word” for Italians. Anyone who has a hint of Italian descent will tell you that this is made up, but that doesn’t even matter — the word has been used on his own program on multiple occasions — usually to refer to whichever one of Trump’s sons is in the news that particular day.
The exchange escalated when Cuomo told the person, who recorded the incident, that he was going to throw him down the stairs and break his legs. Way to fight the stereotype there, Fredo…
