Thought leaders in the modern progressive movement have routinely pushed the point that conservative speech is synonymous with hate speech, and that punching “Nazis” is okay because their opinions pose an imminent threat to the lives of others.
The left, it seems, has co-opted the Bush Doctrine (attack first, ask questions later), from a foreign policy approach into a cultural one. This is why groups like Black Bloc and Antifa shut down college campuses when conservative commentators like Ben Shapiro or Steven Crowder come to do events there — to prevent the imminent triggering from taking place in the first place.
Interestingly, this logic seems to vanish when it is applied to accepting refugees arriving from cultures that share far less commonalities with them than the conservatives they regularly demonize. For all their differences, American conservatives and their progressive counterparts generally share the same views on how leaders should be elected rather than selected by divine right, that sexual assault is evil, and other things we tend to overlook. The same cannot be said for some cultures in the Middle East.
Despite these vast differences, liberals are often confident that immigrants can assimilate into the dominant culture regardless of how vast these differences are — at least, that’s what they tell us. The fact that they are willing to cast aside their own countrymen — whom they say are beyond saving — in favor of foreign culture shows that assimilation isn’t really the goal at all. Instead, their goal is the erosion of the western way of life by any means necessary.
